Location Privacy and Visibility
You have complete control over who sees your location and when your device transmits data. We separate your visibility settings from your background tracking engine so you can customize your privacy without breaking essential safety features.
Managing Your Visibility
You can hide your location from the Live Family Map at any time. This is often referred to as "Ghost Mode."
- Navigate to your Dashboard.
- Tap Privacy Settings under the Security & Privacy section.
- Toggle off Share Location on Map.
When you disable this setting, your live location is hidden from all friends and Guardians. If a Guardian asks the AI where you are, Guardian AI will only report the last known time and location recorded before you turned the setting off.
Emergency Override
Disabling "Share Location on Map" hides your daily movements, but your SOS alerts will still bypass this setting to transmit your coordinates in an emergency.
Background Tracking vs. Visibility
It is important to understand the difference between sharing your location and allowing the app to track your location in the background.
- Share Location on Map: Controls who can visually see you on their map or via Guardian AI.
- Background Tracking: Controls whether the app is allowed to fetch GPS data from your phone's operating system while the app is closed.
If you disable Background Tracking, features like automatic Safe Zone check-ins (Arrivals and Departures) will completely stop working, even if your visibility is turned on.
