Setting up Safe Zones and Geofences
Safe Zones (also known as Geofences) are virtual geographic boundaries you can draw on a map around specific locations, such as a school, a workplace, or your home.
When an approved family member enters or leaves a designated Safe Zone, the Mirronet platform automatically registers the event and can notify your network, providing peace of mind without requiring constant manual checking.
How to Create a Safe Zone
You must have active guardians in your network to assign them to a Safe Zone. To establish a new boundary, follow these steps:
- Open the Dashboard and navigate to the Family Safety Hub.
- Tap Safe Zones.
- Tap the Create New button.
- Use the search bar or drag the map to pinpoint the exact location (e.g., "High School").
- Adjust the radius slider to define the size of the boundary (e.g., 500 meters).
- Select which family members this rule applies to.
- Tap Save to activate the Safe Zone.
Once saved, the selected devices will silently receive the new geographic rules and begin monitoring the boundary immediately.
How Alerts Work
Safe Zones are monitored by the background tracking engine on the user's device. When the device detects that it has crossed the physical threshold of your virtual boundary, it triggers an event.
- Arrival Alerts: Triggered the moment a user crosses into the Safe Zone.
- Departure Alerts: Triggered the moment a user exits the Safe Zone.
Device Permissions Required
For Safe Zones to function accurately, the monitored device must have its Location Permissions set to "Always Allow" (iOS) or "Allow all the time" (Android). If the permission is set to "While Using the App," background arrival and departure alerts will fail to trigger.
Checking Status with Guardian AI
You do not need to wait for an alert to verify if someone is secure. You can ask Guardian AI to instantly check the status of any active Safe Zone.
Simply open Guardian AI and ask:
- "Is Justus still at school?"
- "Did anyone leave the home safe zone today?"
Guardian AI will cross-reference the user's current GPS coordinates with your established boundaries and give you an immediate, clear answer based on the most recent data available.
Managing and Deleting Safe Zones
You can edit or remove a Safe Zone at any time. When you update or delete a boundary, Mirronet instantly sends a silent synchronization signal to all connected devices to update their local tracking rules.
- Navigate back to the Safe Zones screen in your Dashboard.
- Select the existing Safe Zone you wish to manage.
- Adjust the radius, update the assigned members, or tap Delete to remove the boundary entirely.
